Simpson places four athletes, relay team on all-region list
NEW ORLEANS - Two-time selection James Johnson, along with Rouce Sayee, Cole White, Jeret Petersen, and the 4x400 relay team earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for Simpson men's track and field.
The top-8 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Athletic.net Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams.
Sayee, who will represent Simpson at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 21, not only ranks first in the region in the 400m Hurdles, but currently sits tied for 16th in all of Division-III. Sayee set his season-best time of 48.46 seconds at the A-R-C Outdoor Championships, winning the event and becoming an A-R-C Champion.
Johnson saw his name appear twice on the All-Region lists, being named in the 1500m and 5000m. Johnson ranks fifth in the region in the 5000m at 14:15.62 minutes and eighth in the 1500m with a time of 3:49.89, and sits second in program history in both events.
White saved his season-best mark in the discus for the final last chance meet of the year, eclipsing the 50-meter mark to rank fourth in the region at 50.48m. His mark placed his second overall in program history.
In the final decathlon of the year, Petersen put together the fourth best mark in the region, finishing the 10-events with a total score of 6,481 points, the sixth best mark in school history.
Closing out the All-Region honorees for the Storm was the 4x400 relay team of Jrakke Johnson, Adonis McKenzie, Joseph Sams, and Sayee. The foursome posted the second fastest time in school history at 3:13.17 minutes at the Wartburg qualifier in May, which ranked third in the region.
