Achebe ties school record as Simpson begins indoor season in Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - Kendrick Achebe picked up right where he left off as an NCAA All-American last season in the 60m dash, tying his school record as Simpson opened the indoor season at the Grinnell Opener.

"Overall, we saw some great performances that should set us up well for our indoor season," said head coach James Hoffman. "Kendrick Achebe not only tied his school record but set a national qualifier mark against a tough field. Cooper Winkel had a great first college meet. As a hurdler, it's always difficult transitioning from 39 to 42 inch hurdles but coach Brown did a great job getting him and the rest of the hurdle crew ready to perform. It was great to see how the throws group perform how they did under coach Burton's leadership. Some newcomers had a solid opening meet and I'm excited to see how our throws group can make an impact over the next few months."

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

Kendrick Achebe tied his own school record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.81 seconds, taking second overall in the event.
Cooper Winkel claimed the top overall spot in the 60m hurdles and set the third fastest time in school history with a time of 8.13 seconds.
On the field side of events, Lathan McDaniel placed second in the weight throw, hitting 15.11 meters, the fourth best mark in Simpson history.
