Hamilton leads Storm over Luther
DECORAH, Iowa - Amy Hamilton connected on five three-point attempts for the third time this season, leading Simpson with a game-high 23 points and six steals in a 70-53 win over Luther Monday evening at the Regents Center.
The win is the fourth in a row for the Storm (13-3, 6-1 IIAC), which forced 35 turnovers while holding on to the top spot in the Iowa Conference standings.
Hamilton shot 5-of-14 from beyond the arch and 8-of-19 from the field, coming within two points of a career high. The conference's third-leading scorer, Stacey Schutjer came away with 12 points and Katie Kitzman added 11 for the Storm.
Sam Jewell notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Norse (7-9, 2-5 IIAC), who were led in scoring by Camille Stenhaug with 16.
Simpson never trailed in the contest and jumped out to an 18-5 lead just over six minutes in.
After an 11-4 run in the final 3:16 of the first half, Simpson held a 43-25 advantage at intermission.
The Storm extended its lead to 26 points early in the second half. Kitzman knocked down a three to begin the frame, followed by a jumper and a three-ball from Hamilton as Simpson opened its largest lead of the game.
Simpson returns home Wednesday, capping off a stretch of three games in five days by hosting Dubuque at Cowles Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
