Hamilton named IIAC Athlete of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After leading the Storm to an undefeated week in a trying stretch of conference games, Simpson shooting guard Amy Hamilton (Ames, Iowa/Ames) earned Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Hamilton, a junior, averaged 15 points per game in leading Simpson to a 3-0 week which left the Storm holding on to sole possession of first place in the IIAC. She hit 11 3-pointers during the week, including five each in back-to-back wins at Luther and against Dubuque. Hamilton narrowly missed her first career double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds against Dubuque.
After a humbling 94-74 loss at Wartburg on Jan. 6, the Storm (15-3, 8-1 IIAC) has caught fire, rattling off six wins in a row. In three games last week, Simpson defeated its opponents by an average of nearly 20 points during the stretch. The team kicked off the run with a 70-53 win at Luther followed by home victories over Dubuque (91-76) and Central (90-63).
Averaging 79.3 points per game, Simpson boasts the third-highest scoring offense in the nation, while its 16.8 steals per game and 18.1 assists per game rank second and fourth, respectively.
The Storm returns to action Jan. 27 when it travels to Mt. Vernon to face Cornell in a 6 p.m. tipoff.
