Kitzman recognized as outstanding weekly performer

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson women's basketball player Katie Kitzman earned recognition as one of the Iowa Conference's Outstanding Weekly Performers for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 31, the conference office announced Tuesday.

A senior guard from Gillman, Iowa, Kitzman averaged 24.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals as the Storm went 2-0 last week in retaining sole possession of first place in the IIAC. She scored a career-high 26 points at Loras Jan. 30 and, during the week, shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the field, 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from 3-point range, and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) at the free throw line.

A 2005 graduate of East Marshall High School, Kitzman is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points on the season. Simpson (17-3, 10-1 IIAC) boasts the nation's third-highest scoring offense (79.4) and is in the midst of a season-high eight-game winning streak.
