Schutjer named Second Team All-West Region

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson sophomore center Stacey Schutjer (Titonka, Iowa/Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka) added another accolade to her growing list Tuesday when she earned Second Team All-West Region Honors, as announced by D3hoops.com.

The team, voted on by Sports Information Directors in each region, was selected from 676 nominations. The All-Region teams include three teams of five players (two teams if the region has 40 or fewer teams), a player of the year, rookie of the year and coach of the year.

Joining Schutjer on the second team were senior Bri Radtke of Gustavus Adolphus, sophomore Keisha Gordon and freshman Hannah Munger of George Fox and junior Laura Kalbfell of St. Catherine's.

The honor marks Schutjer's third postseason award. The Titonka, Iowa native earned First Team All-Iowa Conference honors and recently earned a place as one of 40 finalists for the 2010 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team for NCAA Division III.

In her first season as a starter, the 6-2 Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka graduate led Simpson in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). She helped the Storm go 23-6, win the Iowa Conference regular season and tournament championships and advance to the second round of the NCAA Championship.

Schutjer ranked sixth in the Iowa Conference in both scoring and rebounding and led the league with 63 blocked shots.

Schutjer was one of three Iowa Conference players recognized as an All-Region performer. Buena Vista senior Margo Muhlbauer was a first team selection and senior Lindsay Bava of Loras appeared on the third team.

Senior Claire Ely of Puget Sound earned West Region Player of the Year honors, Scott Rueck of George Fox was the coach of the year and freshman Hannah Munger of George Fox was the rookie of the year.

All nominees are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be announced on Saturday, March 20 at the Final Four in Bloomington, Ill.
