Storm keep momentum rolling by taking down Luther to tip-off 2026

DECORAH, Iowa - In a return to A-R-C action, Simpson guard Cam Henderson led the way with 25 points as the Storm handled Luther 77-70 on Saturday evening.

Henderson picked apart the Norse' (5-7, 0-3 A-R-C) defense all night, shooting 12-for-19 from the field, along with a key 3-pointer down the stretch to lead Simpson (5-7, 2-1 A-R-C) to their third win in four games. Levi Gurwell delivered an 18-point, eight rebound performance, and was the only other Storm to reach double-digits in scoring.

Overall as a team, Simpson shot 31-for-61 (50.8 percent) from the field, 6-for-15 (40 percent) beyond the arc, and 9-for-20 (45 percent) at the line. The Storm grabbed 34 rebounds, led by Gurwell's eight, and Jachin Mertes and Calix Cahill's five. Bo Huston and Cahill's three assists led the team as Simpson finished with 11 total on only four turnovers and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Simpson jumped out to an early 15-9 lead as five different Storm scored in the opening five minutes of action.
  • Luther tied the score at 20-20 at the 10:47 mark before the Storm answered back with a 12-4 run on 5-of-9 shooting.
  • A couple of late baskets from Henderson, who led all first half scorers with 12 points, fueled Simpson to a 38-31 lead heading into the locker room.
  • Henderson continued the momentum in the second half, scoring the first two baskets for Simpson as the Storm eventually took a 12-point lead after six minutes.
  • Luther trailed by as many as 14 before a 14-3 run cut the Storm lead down to just one with only 4:33 left on the clock.
  • A 3-pointer from Henderson cooled the comeback attempt and clutch free throws down the stretch from Cahill and Isaac Averill locked up the 77-70 road win.
