Henderson drops new career high; Simpson keeps momentum rolling with win over Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Central's defense found no answer to Cam Henderson as the guard dropped a career-high 31 points in Simpson's 94-79 win over the Dutch on Wednesday night.

Henderson became the first Storm (7-8, 4-2 A-R-C) to eclipse the 30-point mark since Levi Gurwell scored 32 against Luther last February. Gurwell also added 20 points, 11 of which came at the free throw line, as Simpson's offense proved to be too much for the Dutch (6-8, 0-6 A-R-C).

Simpson finished the night a blistering 32-for-54 (59.3 percent) from the field, 11-for-22 beyond the arc, and 19-for-21 (90.5 percent) at the free throw line. Simpson ended with 17 assists on 11 turnovers, along with five blocks, and three steals.

With the win, Simpson moved into third place in the A-R-C standings, and winners of four of their last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Central controlled the opening minutes of the game, extending their lead to as many as seven and holding a 22-16 edge at the 11:43 mark.
  • Simpson began to make the adjustments and fueled by Henderson's electric 21-point first half, began erasing the lead.
  • Over a six minute stretch Simpson outscored the Dutch 25-to-2, including 21 straight points, while connecting on six 3-pointers.
  • Holding a 17-point lead at halftime, Simpson continued to put pressure on the Dutch's defense in the second half. The Storm's lead swelled to as many as 24.
  • Central managed to cut the lead down to single digits in the final minutes of the game but a solid performance for the Storm at the free throw line sealed the conference win.
