Storm men's basketball geared up for 2025-26 campaign
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In the second year under head coach Kyle Jones, Simpson aims to make waves in the 2025-26 season after being picked eighth in American Rivers Conference Coaches preseason poll.
All-Conference honorable mention senior guard Levi Gurwell, and senior guard Bo Huston bring experience to the backcourt for the Storm. The duo averaged over 22 points per game last season and return as the leading scorers from a year ago. Cam Henderson's 10.8 points per game, and team-leading 42 assists in just 15 games adds depth to the guard position for the Storm.
Forwards Marcus Haupert and Logan Kowalski give the Storm experience down low while Colton Rasmussen and Nathaniel Winter give Jones more options on the perimeter.
Dubuque claimed the top overall spot in the standings, earning seven of the nine first place votes for a total of 63 points. Nebraska Wesleyan came in at two with 54 points followed by Loras with two first place votes and 53 points. Coe (38 points), Central (35), Wartburg (30) made up the middle of the pack with Buena Vista (24), Simpson (15) and Luther (12) rounding out the poll.
Simpson begins the season on Friday, Nov. 7 in Jacksonville, Illinois with a matchup against Benedictine. Notable games include a road match against Drake on Nov. 10, the homeopener a part of the Bruce Wilson Shootout on Friday, Nov. 21, and A-R-C opener against Loras on Saturday, Dec. 6.
LOOK BACK AT LAST SEASON
- The Storm finished 5-20 overall with a 2-14 record in conference action, including wins over Luther, and Coe.
- Senior guard Levi Gurwell was named A-R-C All-Conference honorable mention after averaging 12 points per game in conference action and reaching double-digits in scoring 15 times.
- Over 25 games, Simpson averaged 67.1 points per game on 43.9 field goal shooting, over 30 rebounds per game, and 11 assists per contest.
- Gurwell was also selected to the CSC Academic All-District team, while the team claimed its ninth straight NABC Team Academic Excellence honor.
