Emma Cooper sets 60m school record in opening meet of the season

GRINNELL, Iowa - Emma Cooper became the fastest Storm in school history, breaking the school record in the 60m dash to headline Simpson's first meet of the 2025-26 indoor season.

"Overall, we saw some great performances that should set us up well for our indoor season," said head coach James Hoffman. "Emma Cooper is starting to build a lot of confidence in her events. She put together a heck of a fall training block and performed how we thought she would. Aubrey McDaniel has a ton of upside, and we are starting to make some improvements in her form that should help her drop even more time. It was great to see how the throws group perform how they did under coach Burton's leadership. Some newcomers had a solid opening meet and I'm excited to see how our throws group can make an impact over the next few months. Lastly, one of the deeper aspects of our team is our women's long jump led by coach Berkey. He has done a great job recruiting and developing that group that has a number of women we feel can score for us at the conference meet."

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

Emma Cooper broke the school record in the prelims with a time of 7.90 seconds but the record did not last for long, as Cooper eclipsed it in the finals at 7.88 seconds.
Nicole Middents took second in the 300m at 43.85 seconds which placed fifth fastest in school history.
Aubrey McDaniel took second overall in the 60m dash, setting the second fastest time in the prelims with a time of 7.91 seconds.
