Steen snags A-R-C Player of the Week honor
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - There was not much opposing pitching staffs could do to stop Ashlyn Steen last week, as the junior centerfield was named the A-R-C Player of the Week on Monday.
Over six games, Steen went off for 13-for-20 at the plate, backed by two home runs, and 11 runs driven in. Out of her 13 hits, seven went for extra base hits with the two homers along with three doubles, and two triples. Steen led the team with 10 runs scored, 26 total bases, and collected one stolen base. On the week, Steen slashed .650 at the plate with a .696 on-base and 1.300 slugging percentage.
With Steen hitting safely in all six games, the centerfielder ramped up her current hit-streak to 23-games.
The Simpson softball team went 5-1 at home on the week, starting with a drumming of Central 11-3 and 18-3. The Storm followed up with a 1-0 and 8-5 wins over Loras before splitting with Wartburg 8-2 and 11-3. The Storm improved to 28-4 on the season, and hold second place in the conference with a 9-3 standing.
