Storm extend win streak to 10 after doubleheader sweep to close out Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. - In the final day of action at The Spring Games in Florida, Simpson walked away with another pair of wins to improve to 15-1 on the season, and extended the win-streak to 10 games.

The Storm's 15-1 start to the year is the best record through the first 16 games since 2015 when Simpson started 16-0 and reached the NCAA Regional tournament.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson used the long ball to get on the board first, striking with a solo shot to left center from Ginnaty in the second inning.
  • Heidelbauer continued her hot streak with an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Steen to make it a 2-0 ball after three innings.
  • Simpson added one more in the fifth on another RBI double from Heidelbauer to left, scoring Steen again.
  • In the sixth, the Storm lit up the scoreboard with four runs starting with an RBI single from Shaner. Obleton singled on a bunt, scoring Rouse, followed by an RBI single from Steen, and finally a passed ball allowed Obleton to come home for a 7-0 lead.
  • Old Westbury's lone damage came in the sixth with a two-run home run to cut the lead down to 7-2.
  • The Storm added one final insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Fowler, scoring Rouse before cruising to the 8-2 win.
  • LaFave got the start in the circle, going all seven innings, allowing just the two runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts for the win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Steen opened the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning, scoring Obleton to put Simpson on the board first.
  • Ehlers added to the lead in the same inning, collecting a single through the left side to score Steen, making it a 2-0 game.
  • Heidelbauer added to the lead with a triple, and scored on the play after a throwing error to make it a 3-0 ballgame in the fifth.
  • Amherst's lone run of the game came in the seventh on an RBI single but their rally was cut short as Simpson clinched the 3-1 win.
  • Tucker got the final start in Florida, going the distance to earn her fifth win of the season on eight hits, one run, two walks, and five strikeouts.
