Storm men close season in A-R-C AQ Tourney

PELLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College men's tennis team competed in the American Rivers Conference Automatic Qualifier Tournament for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign on Tuesday, but fell 5-0 to Central.

After defeating Nebraska Wesleyan in the regular season finale to clinch a spot as the sixth seed last Saturday, the Storm end the year with a 6-12 overall mark and 3-5 record in A-R-C play. The three league victories are the most since Simpson tallied four during the 2006-07 slate.

The Dutch (7-2, 6-2 A-R-C) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. The hosts won the No. 3 and 5 singles matches to clinch the match as the No. 3 seed. Central will now play No. 2 Coe this weekend in the semifinals.

Peter Walkwitz ends the season with 11 victories to pace Simpson in singles play. Ethan Humble was second with eight triumphs, while Brett Dewerff and Aaron Price both had six.
