Storm defeat St. Ambrose to split home doubleheader

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- For the first time in 2021, the Simpson College men's tennis team played on its home courts. The Storm dropped an American Rivers Conference match to Wartburg before rebounding with a win over St. Ambrose on Saturday.

The Knights (6-9, 1-1 A-R-C) claimed a 6-3 victory to even their league record and Simpson (2-8, 0-4 A-R-C) came close to shutting out the Fighting Bees (2-8) in an 8-1 match.

The No. 2 doubles duo of Reade Reiter and Brett Dewerff provided an 8-6 win against Wartburg in the opener. Dewerff carried that success into singles play to capture 6-4, 6-2 triumphs in the No. 6 slot. Peter Walkwitz provided the other win for the Storm against the Knights.

In the nightcap, Simpson won all six singles bouts and only had one match go to a third set. Ethan Humble only lost one game between his two sets at No. 5 singles to highlight a strong showing from the Storm.

Reiter was tough at No. 1 singles against his St. Ambrose counterpart to prevail 6-1, 6-4.
