Simpson tops Westminster for second in a row

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  - Simpson won 4 of 6 singles matches and swept doubles competition to win its second straight match of the season Monday afternoon against Westminster (Mo.).

Jill Berner (Albia, Iowa/Albia) and Allison Anderson (Eldridge, Iowa/North Scott) earned tough, three-set victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Berner beat Dori Craighead 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 1 to set the tone for the Storm (3-2). At No. 4, Anderson fell behind with a 7-6 (10-8) loss in the first set before taking the final two sets, 6-3 and 1-0 (10-4).

Tiffany Bost (Spokane, Wash./Mead) defeated Megan Slayton at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0) and Lindsay Nash (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) beat Rhiannon Woodruff at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2).

Simpson swept through doubles competition, with the team of Berner and Bost taking an 8-5 win at No. 1, Nash and Lynae Gruber (Shenandoah, Iowa/Shenandoah) earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 and the duo of Anderson and Meagen Kirts (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) took an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Storm return home to face Central in a dual match Tuesday at 3 p.m.
