Upper Iowa, Cornell edge Simpson to close regular season

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's tennis team took two losses against Upper Iowa and Cornell in its last week of regular season play.

Lindsay Nash (Fr., Keokuk, Iowa) picked up Simpson's only win in an 8-1 loss against Upper Iowa on Oct. 5 in Indianola. Playing No. 5 singles against Upper Iowa's Nicole Henry, Nash lost the first set 4-6 but fought back to win the next two, 6-1 and 14-12.

Simpson (3-12, 3-6 IIAC) couldn't get things going against Cornell in a 9-0 conference loss the following day at Mount Vernon . Jill Berner (Jr., Albia, Iowa) gave Samantha De Gannes a run at No. 1 singles before falling 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 11-9. Nash also pressured No. 6 singles opponent Devin Harmon, who pulled out the win 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6.

Simpson concludes its season, just missing the sixth place seed to make the conference tournament. Simpson now looks forward to the IIAC Individual Conference Championship Oct. 16-17, held at Cedar Rapids.
