Lutmer’s career high leads Simpson past Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Molly Lutmer scored a career-high 28 points and the Simpson College women's basketball team made it 46 consecutive wins over Central with a 95-87 American Rivers Conference victory inside Cowles Fieldhouse.

Lutmer sank four of Simpson's 13 3-pointers and was 7-for-10 inside the arc to lead the Storm (3-2, 1-0 A-R-C) to their first home and conference victories of the year. Haley Rasmussen had three triples and 16 points, Ella Anderson scored a career-high 13, and Maddax DeVault and Elle Street also reached double figures.

BREAKING DOWN THE ACTION

  • Back-to-back triples from Haley Rasmussen and Molly Lutmer gave Simpson an early 10-6 lead, but the Dutch (5-3, 0-1 A-R-C) answered with five threes of their own to go ahead 21-15.
  • The Storm took control with two 10-0 runs to build a 35-26 lead midway through the second period. Late 3-point buckets from Morgan Pietig and Maddax DeVault gave the Storm a 10-point advantage, 50-40, going into the locker room.
  • Simpson extended its lead to 74-62 at the end of the third quarter, fueled by six points from Ella Anderson as well as five from Rasmussen.
  • Central cut the lead to five with 5:13 on the clock, but the Storm maintained their composure and closed things out.

  • Simpson has now won 46 consecutive matchups against Central, improving to 71-31 in the series.
  • The Storm have now won eight consecutive home openers.
  • Simpson starts conference play 1-0 for the second straight season and fifth time in the last six years.

Simpson heads back to Wisconsin to play two games at the Wis.-La Crosse Thanksgiving Classic. The Storm will take on Saint Benedict on Saturday at 4 p.m. followed by Wis.-Whitewater on Sunday at 2 p.m.
