Storm seniors break records, take home SC ESPY awards
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Seniors J Jensen III and Haley Rasmussen cemented their names in the record books during the 2024-25 athletic year, leaving behind legacies and earning this year's SC ESPY Record-Breaking Performers of the Year awards.
On the gridiron, Jensen set the Storm's all-time career passing touchdown record while also establishing the program's highest single-season completion percentage. On the court, Rasmussen delivered one of the most efficient shooting campaigns in college basketball history, breaking Simpson's single-season records for both made 3-pointers and 3-point percentage.
The pair are the first of eight award recipients to be announced this week by the Simpson College Athletic Department. The 2024-25 Newcomers of the Year will be revealed tomorrow.
J Jensen III, football
A four-year starter under center, Jensen closed his career by setting a new program record with 80 passing touchdowns, breaking Taylor Nelson's previous record of 77 between 2010-13. He also set a new school record for single-season completion percentage, converting 244 of 369 attempts (66.1%) to best Nelson's previous record of 65.5% set in 2013.
Jensen led the American Rivers Conference this season in both passing yards (2594) and touchdowns (25), garnering first team all-conference honors. He was named A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30 and leaves Simpson ranked second in the career record books for passing yards (8562), completions (751), attempts (1239), and yards per game (237.8).
Haley Rasmussen, women's basketball
Rasmussen registered one of the most impressive shooting seasons in college basketball history, breaking Simpson's single-season records for both made 3-pointers (75) and 3-point percentage (51.7%). Her shooting percentage this season not only led Division III, but was also the highest across all NCAA divisions, men's and women's.
She surpassed the previous records set by Carlie Beals (73 made 3-pointers in 2006-07) and Kate Nielsen (50.7% 3-point shooting in 2012-13), while averaging a career-best 14.5 points per game and scoring in double figures 23 times. Rasmussen eclipsed 1,000 career points and finished her career fifth all-time in made 3-pointers with 186. She earned All-A-R-C First Team honors for the second straight year.
