Street nets 22 as Simpson downs Dubuque
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Elle Street recorded a new career high behind 8 of 9 shooting, Molly Lutmer and Haley Rasmussen combined for 38 points, and the Simpson College women's basketball team beat Dubuque 87-79 on Saturday inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
The Storm (4-5, 2-1 A-R-C) knocked down a season-high 15 3-pointers, including five from leading-scorer Street. The junior from Ankeny, Iowa missed one attempt behind the arc but was perfect elsewhere, ending the game with a career-high 22 points.
Lutmer and Rasmussen added four and three 3-pointers, respectively, both inching their way closer to 150 career makes from downtown.
QUARTER BREAKDOWN
- 1st - The two teams combined for five 3-pointers in the first five minutes and Simpson added three more before the quarter was over for a 28-22 lead. Haley Rasmussen, Molly Lutmer, and Elle Street all had at least seven points.
- 2nd - Rasmussen scored the first five points of the frame, giving the Storm their first double-digit lead of the game. Dubuque (1-6, 0-2 A-R-C) cut the deficit down to four before Street and Lutmer hit from distance to put Simpson ahead by a dozen. The Storm led 52-42 at the break.
- 3rd - Dubuque forced nine turnovers and outscored the Storm 26-10 for a six-point advantage. Simpson converted just one basket from the floor but stayed in it with 7 of 9 shooting at the line.
- 4th - The Storm opened the fourth with a triple from Lutmer followed by four free throws from Karsen Jacks to grab the edge back. Street then hit back-to-back triples with just over five minutes left to give Simpson the lead for good.
NOTES
- Simpson breaks a three-game losing streak in the series and now leads 78-13 all-time.
- The Storm shot over 50.0 percent behind the arc for the third time this season and converted 15 3-pointers, the most since recording 15 against Wartburg on Dec. 11, 2021.
- Molly Lutmer has now made 141 3-pointers in career, while Haley Rasmussen has knocked down 139. Rasmussen is also on watch to score her 1,000th career point in Simpson uniform, needing just 87 more.
