Shaffer named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior pitcher Jack Shaffer added another honor to his resume following his near no-hitter, earning a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

Shaffer's selection comes after a standout performance in the Storm's 4-0 win over Hamline, where he came within one strike of a no-hitter. The right-hander carried the bid into the ninth inning before a two-out, two-strike single broke it up, leaving him with a one-hit shutout.

Despite facing pressure throughout the outing, Shaffer consistently worked out of trouble. He escaped a bases-loaded situation in the fifth inning with back-to-back strikeouts and stranded runners in scoring position in multiple frames to preserve the shutout.

Shaffer finished the game with a career-high nine strikeouts over nine innings, earning both the win and American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. He's the first Storm baseball player to land on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week since Trey Castile on April 24, 2024. 

Simpson returns to the field this Friday to take on Coe for its A-R-C opener.
