Shaffer claims A-R-C Pitcher of the Week recognition

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – One strike away from a no-hitter, Jack Shaffer has been named the American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Shaffer delivered a dominant one-hit complete-game shutout in Simpson's 4-0 win over Hamline, carrying a no-hit bid into the ninth inning. The bid was broken up with two outs and two strikes on a single, leaving Shaffer one strike shy of the program's first no-hitter since 2020 and just the fourth since 1999.

The right-hander allowed his first baserunner on a leadoff walk in the fourth inning and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth by striking out the final two batters of the frame. He also stranded runners at third in four different innings, repeatedly pitching out of high-pressure situations to keep Hamline off the scoreboard.

Shaffer finished the outing with a career-high nine strikeouts and two walks over nine innings, earning the win and helping Simpson secure a split in the doubleheader.

This is the second week in a row the Storm pitching staff has been recognized by the conference, following Easton Dunwoody's honor last Monday. The Storm begin A-R-C action on the road against Coe this weekend.
