Torres, Silva finish top three at Luther Hill Invitational
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Noel Torres and Nicholas Silva each placed in the top three of their respective brackets to lead the Simpson College men's wrestling team in its season-opening meet on Saturday.
Torres turned in a strong start to his senior campaign, finishing as the runner-up at 157 pounds. He earned back-to-back wins over a pair of Central wrestlers before falling to Southeast Community College's Ayson Rice, 17-6, in the championship match.
Silva also impressed in his first outing of the year, taking third at 174 pounds. The senior opened with 4-0 and 5-0 shutout victories over opponents from Nebraska Wesleyan and William Penn before dropping a 5-1 decision in the semifinals. He battled back in the consolation round, securing 13-10 and 8-3 wins to finish on the podium.
Trey Kellow and Carson Slorah each finished fifth in their respective weight classes, while Caden Elliott added a sixth-place result to round out the Storm's top performers.
