Lights out pitching lands Cronin A-R-C Pitcher of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Down in Florida for the Spring Games, Marina Cronin shut down bats all week long, leading to her second A-R-C Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Appearing in six games, Cronin tossed 22 innings, allowing only one earned run while collecting four wins, a save, and 21 strikeouts. Her week began by shutting down Chicago in a 5-4 win over 4.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Cronin then pitched three scoreless innings in a 13-0 win over Springfield and a one inning save outing against Keene State.
In a doubleheader against UW-Whitewater and Macalester, Cronin pitched another 6.1 scoreless innings, and picked up the win against Macalester in extra innings. She closed out the week finally allowing her first runs, just two, only one earned, in a 5-2 win over George Fox where she went for a complete game with a season-high eight strikeouts.
On the year, Cronin now sports a perfect 7-0 record in 10 games with two saves with a staggering 0.52 ERA over 40.1 innings and 41 strikeouts.
Simpson improved to 15-2 on the season, and sits ranked 12th in the country in the latest NFCA national coaches poll. The Storm return to action on Thursday, March 26 with a doubleheader at home against Cornell starting at 3:00 p.m.
