INDIANOLA, Iowa – With just a minute and change left on the clock, Tate Downs delivered the critical game-winning goal to lift Simpson to a 2-1 victory over Dubuque on Wednesday night.
Mitchell Dickson fired off a shot from just eight yards out that was blocked but ricocheted right back to him in the 89th minute. Dickson connected with Downs on the near side, who was wide open, and the sophomore timed his first career goal perfectly, scoring to seal the 2-1 victory.
Simpson (7-7-2, 3-2-1 A-R-C) got on the board first when Ronaldo Ordaz connected on his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 23rd minute. The win marks the third in the last four matches for the Storm, and their third straight at home.
GOAL SUMMARY
- In the 23rd minute, Mitchell Dickson worked the ball down the near sideline before crossing the ball to the top of the box, finding Ronaldo Ordaz, who connected to the lower left post for his eighth goal of the season.
