Bio
The 2015 season marks Joel Hoger's third as an assistant track and field coach at Simpson. Hoger coaches the middle distance runners and is also an assistant cross country coach.
Hoger comes to Simpson from Indianola High School, where he was an assistant track coach specializing in distance and hurdles. Under Hoger, Indianola won three straight Drake Relays titles in the 4x800-meter relay (2010-2012), recorded three straight state runner up titles in the 4x8 (2010-12), won back-to-back Drake Relays titles in the 4x400-meter relay (2009-10) and won a state championship in the 4x4 in 2010.
During his time at Indianola, Hoger coached two 800-meter state champions and saw the Indians place second overall at the 2010 state championship.
Hoger's coaching career began at Chariton High School, where he was the head coach of the boys track and field team from 2000-2005 and head coach of the boys cross country team from 2001-04. His 2001 cross country team won the school's first - and only - district championship.
Hoger is 1999 graduate of Simpson, where he won eight varsity letters in cross country and track and field. He was MVP of the cross country team in 1996.
Currently, Hoger is an adjunct professor of mathematics at Simpson.
Joel and his wife, Megan, reside in Indianola. The couple has four children: a son, Logan (9), and three daughters, Taylor (6) and twins Lilly and Paige (5).
