Storm finish 7th at IIAC Championships
IOWA CITY - Simpson shot 335 to finish in seventh place on the final day of the Iowa Conference Championship at Finkbine Golf Course on Saturday.
Simpson entered the final round in sixth, but dropped one spot due to a surge by Wartburg on the last 18 holes of the 72-hole tournament.
Central took the title with a four-round total score of 1,235. Dubuque finished second with 1,259, followed by Loras (1,261), Luther (1,262), Buena Vista (1,271) and Wartburg (1,286). Simpson shot a 1,301, followed by Coe (1,315) and Cornell (1,455).
Matt Spaulding (Fonda, Iowa) carded a 10-over 82 for the second straight day, finishing the tournament tied for 11th at 315.
James Montgomery (Knoxville, Iowa) shot an 11-over 83 for the second day in a row, finishing tied for 15th at 320.
After shooting the team's low-round of 80 at Finkbine on Friday, Connor Juilfs (Newell, Iowa) came back with an 83 Saturday to finish with 325, tied for 24th.
Nick Tanner (Sheldon, Iowa) shot an 88 for the second day in a row, finishing the tournament with 345, tied for 37th. In his second day of competition, Matt Haley (Corning, Iowa) shaved four strokes from Friday, carding an 87.
