Simpson sixth after three rounds at the IIAC Championship
IOWA CITY - Connor Juilfs (Newell, Iowa) shot an 8-over 80 on Friday and Simpson dropped to sixth-place after the third round of the Iowa Conference Championship played at a windy Finkbine Golf Course.
Matt Spaulding (Fonda, Iowa) leads the team in a tie for fifth after shooting a 10-over 82 on Friday. He now sits at 233 after three rounds.
Simpson entered the day in fifth, but fell behind Dubuque after shooting 333.
Central leads the tournament with a three-round total of 928, followed by Luther (943), Loras (944) and Buena Vista (949). Dubuque is fifth with 955, followed by Simpson (966), Wartburg (978), Coe (984) and Cornell (1092).
With his team-best 80, Juilfs moved into a tie for 21st, after entering the day in 24th. He now owns a 54-hole total of 242.
James Montgomery (Knoxville, Iowa) dropped out of the top-10 into a tie for 12th after shooting an 11-over 83, and now sits at 237 for the tournament.
Nick Tanner (Sheldon, Iowa) shot an 88, giving him 257 in three rounds, tied for 37th. Matt Haley (Corning, Iowa) carded a 91 in his first day of competition in the tournament.
Weather permitting, the squads will attempt to complete the tournament Saturday with another 18 holes at Finkbine. Teams from Wartburg, Coe, and Cornell are scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m., followed by players from Buena Vista, Dubuque, and Simpson at approximately 9:50 a.m. The final wave, which will include golfers from Central, Luther, and Loras, will go off No. 1 beginning at approximately 10:40 a.m.
