Obermark, Kehrli ready for historic NCAA Championship

CORALVILLE, Iowa – The Simpson College women's wrestling team will be represented by two competitors at the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship this weekend as No. 6 Annelise Obermark and No. 5 Keeley Kehrli travel to Coralville, Iowa.

The championship, hosted at Xtream Arena, marks the first official NCAA-sponsored national tournament for women's wrestling. Obermark (145) and Kehrli (160) earned their spots with top-three finishes at the NCAA Region 5 Championships hosted on campus.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
One hundred and eighty wrestlers will battle for national titles in their respective weight classes, with the top eight finishers in each bracket earning All-American honors. Seeded sixth and eighth, respectively, Obermark and Kehrli look to become the first All-Americans in program history.

SIMPSON QUALIFIERS

  • Obermark enters the national tournament with a 23-3 record after finishing runner-up at the regional meet. She secured her national berth with a 6-4 semifinal victory over Wartburg's Aniyah Kelly before falling to top-ranked Reese Larramendy of Iowa in the championship bout. Obermark has won two tournaments this season and will be making her second consecutive appearance on the national stage.
  • Kehrli carries a 32-3 record into the championship and qualified with a third-place finish at regionals. After a semifinal loss, she rebounded with two quick falls to secure her national berth, pinning Alaina Franco (Augsburg) in 29 seconds and May Prado (Wartburg) in 42 seconds in the third-place match. The two-time American Rivers Conference champion leads the Storm with 19 pins this season.
