Obermark wins 145 title as Storm open season at home invitational
INDIANOLA, Iowa – No. 9 Annelise Obermark captured the 145-pound championship to lead the Simpson College women's wrestling team in a strong season-opening performance at the Luther Hill Invitational on Saturday.
Obermark went 4-0 on the day to claim her first title of the season. She defeated Iowa's Cadence Diduch, 8-6, in a tightly contested final after rolling through her earlier matches with wins over Haidyn Snyder (Grand View), fall in 2:12; Siobhan Rogers (Quincy), 14-3; and Emma Stive (Hastings), 8-1.
Three more Storm wrestlers reached the finals as No. 10 Emaline Hicks (103), Layla Phillips (117), and No. 9 Keeley Kehrli (160) each earned runner-up finishes, combining for 11 total victories. Hicks provided one of the day's biggest highlights with a pin of No. 2 Rianne Murphy (Iowa) in 2:58 during the semifinals.
Additional placewinners for the Storm included Jenna Joseph (180) in fourth, No. 7 Ashley Cannon (124) in fifth, and Sarah Zimmerman (110) in sixth.
