Gershmel cruises through bracket at Grand View Open
DES MOINES, Iowa – Paige Gershmel went 5-0 with three falls and two technical falls to win the 138 pound bracket at the Grand View Open on Saturday.
Gershmel began the day with a 16-5 technical fall over Grand View's Shelby Davis. She then posted back-to-back pins to land a match against Wartburg's Rachel Fode in the semifinals. Gershmel won that match 13-2 and claimed the bracket title by pinning Leighanna Patz of Baker in 1:32.
Noa Arnold also won five matches on her way to third place honors at 145 pounds. Lainie Burkhart (124) and Ella McNamee (117) both went 4-2 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
NOTES
- Paige Gershmel improves to 30-7 on the year. She broke the program record for wins in a season with her fourth win of the day, surpassing Jenna Joseph who tallied 28 wins in 2022-23.
UP NEXT
Simpson heads to East Moline for the two-day Division III Invitational on Feb. 8-9. The Storm will then host the NCWWC Region VII Championship on Feb. 22.
