Storm quartet earns all-region recognition
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Four members of the Simpson College softball team were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Team, announced on Friday afternoon.
Ashlyn Steen and Megan Heidelbauer, coming off all-conference first team honors yesterday, also received first team recognition on the all-region team. Both athletes are earning their first career all-region honors.
Caelynn Obleton earned all-region second team honors, after a terrific season at third base. The sophomore is also receiving her first career all-region honor. Alexis Ehlers rounds out the Storm's all-region honorees, being named to the third team. Ehlers is garnering all-region accolades for the second straight campaign.
Ashlyn Steen, First Team
- Sophomore center fielder from Mount Vernon, Iowa
- Earning her first career all-region honor
- Received her second straight all-conference first team honor earlier this week
- Won A-R-C Position Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks
- Led the team and conference in four separate offensive categories
- Entered Simpson's 100 career hit club this season
Megan Heidelbauer, First Team
- Sophomore first baseman from Marion, Iowa
- Receiving her first career all-region honor
- Garnered all-conference first team honors
- Ranked in the top 10 in the conference in multiple offensive and defensive categories
- Joined teammate Ashlyn Steen as the only Storm players to bat over .400 on the year
Caelynn Obleton, Second Team
- Sophomore third baseman from Marion, Iowa
- Earning all-region distinction for the first time in her career
- Named second team all-conference earlier this week
- Tied or set single-season highs in batting average, doubles, stolen bases, and RBIs
- Recorded a 17-game hitting streak during the season, the longest by a Storm player this season
Alexis Ehlers, Third Team
- Junior shortstop from Bryant, Iowa
- Receiving her second straight all-region honor after first team honors as a sophomore
- Also earned her second straight all-conference award earlier this week
- Was one of the conference's top power hitters, leading the league in doubles and home runs
- Recorded 44 RBIs on the year, ranking second in a single season in program history
