Philpott adds AP All-America honor to sophomore resume

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Sophomore punter Tanner Philpott has added another national honor to his 2025 resume, earning Associated Press (AP) Third Team All-America recognition. The selection marks Philpott's second All-America honor of the year, following his AFCA Second Team distinction.

Philpott turned in one of the most efficient punting seasons in NCAA Division III, totaling 1,757 yards on 40 punts and averaging 43.9 yards per kick, the third-best mark in the nation. Despite Simpson not needing to punt in three games, he consistently flipped field position by placing 16 punts inside the 20, a top-20 national total and the fourth-most in a single season in program history, while recording 11 punts of 50-plus yards, tied for sixth nationally. He matched his career-long 78-yard punt against Nebraska Wesleyan on Nov. 15.

In addition to his two All-America honors, Philpott was named second team all-region and first team all-conference for his sophomore campaign. He earned two A-R-C Special Teams Player of the Week awards and academic all-conference honors as well.

Philpott is the first Storm football player to earn All-America honors from the Associated Press since George Yaniger in 1963.
