Degen breaks discus school record
ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Chelsey Degen improved her automatic qualifying mark in the discus throw and broke her own school record with a toss of 154 feet, 9 inches (47.18 meters) at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier on Friday.
Degen (Algona, Iowa) won the meet and broke her own school record of 151-1 set in 2010. The senior had the No. 10 throw in the nation coming into the weekend, but improves to No. 3 with her latest effort.
On the men's side, Ryan Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa) ran in the 10,000 meters at the Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Ill on Thursday evening. He ran a 32:30, shy of the 32:42.82 he ran in winning the Iowa Conference Championship last weekend.
Degen and high jumper Kinsey Bak (Hinton, Iowa) will represent Simpson at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on May 26-28 in Delaware, Ohio.
