Ellingson named IIAC Athlete of the Week
INDIANOLA - Track and field athlete Catie Ellingson earned Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending March 6, 2011, the league office announced Tuesday.
Ellingson, a senior middle distance runner from Indianola, Iowa, picked up IIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second week in a row. On Saturday, she shattered her own school record in the mile with a time of 4:49.58 at the ISU Cyclone Last Chance Meet. The time, which converts 4:51.38 on a non-banked track, ranks second in Division III this season and automatically qualified Ellingson for the NCAA Division III Championships.
She set the previous Simpson record of 4:57.97 at last week's IIAC Championships.
The three-time All-American will compete in the Mile Run at this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
