Storm take third at Central Invitational

PELLA, Iowa - Jennifer Gaffney turned in the highest individual finish of the season and Simpson took third place at the Central Invitational at Bos Landen Golf Club on Saturday.

Central won the tournament with a 36-hole score of 682, followed by Grinnell (693) and Simpson (729). Coe took fourth (769), followed by Knox (967).

Gaffney responded to her first-round 83 with an 86, giving her a sole possesion of fourth place with a 169. She finished only one stroke behind third-place finisher Hailey Speck of Grinnell.

Central's Sarah Paulson won the individual race after firing a 77 on Saturday, the low round of the tournament. She fiinished with a 16-over 160.

Jenni Stumpf shot a 91 on Saturday, finishing at 183 for the tournament, good for 12th place. Taylor Hillery shaved three strokes from Friday to Saturday, finishing 14th with 187 (95-92). Molly Hill carded a 191 (96-95) to place 15th and Stacy Bergeson took 19th after shooting 193 (99-94).

Simpson begins play at the Iowa Conference Tournament next weekend. The tournament tees of at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club in Cedar Falls on Friday, Sept. 30.
