Late goals push Dubuque past Simpson

INDIANOLA - Pablo Martinez scored a goal and assisted on another as Dubuque beat Simpson 3-0 on Saturday at Buxton Stadium.

Glenn Verley got the Spartans (7-1-0, 1-0 IIAC) on the board two minutes before halftime. The leading goal scorer in the Iowa Conference, Martinez added the second goal in the 70th minute and Nick McDonald made the score 3-0 with his strike in the 85th minute.

Despite being shut out, the Storm (3-5-0, 0-1 IIAC) attempted only one fewer shot than Dubuque.

"Against a good team like Dubuque, you have to play well for 90 minutes," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We played very well for 60 minutes today. We just made a few mistakes that you can't make against a team of that caliber."

Luke Aronow (Ankeny, Iowa) made three saves in goal and Luke Haack (Ankeny, Iowa) took three shots for the Storm.
