Simpson finishes second at William Penn
OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Junior Nick Tanner (Sheldon,
Iowa/Sheldon) carded a 2-over 70 to lead the Storm to a second
place finish at the Southern Iowa JV Invitational April
13 at the Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.
As a team, Simpson shot 307 on the day, narrowly escaping third
place North Iowa Area CC (309). Eleven strokes ahead of the Storm,
Grand View Red won the invitational (296). William Penn Gold
battled out a fourth place finish (310) over AIB in fifth (311) to
round out the top half of the 10-team event.
With his 72, Tanner placed second overall, the only Storm player in
the top 15. Jon Sukut (Ankeny, Iowa/North Polk)
and Adam Walker (Adel, Iowa/ADM) tied for 19th,
shooting 8-over. One stroke behind, Grant Northway
(Altoona, Iowa/Grandview Park Baptist) tied for 27th (79).
Luke Goemaat (Albia, Iowa/Albia) tied for 46th
(84) followed by Marc Don Carlos (Greenfield,
Iowa/Totino Grace) in a tie for 50th (85). Mitch
Bracker (Neola, Iowa/Tri-Center Neola) tied for 53rd (86)
while John Holtzman (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/Washington) finished 59th (92) to round out the Simpson
line-up.
In its last regular-season meet, Simpson travels to Storm Lake to
play in the Buena Vista Invitational April 16-17 before playing the
first two rounds of the IIAC Championship in Iowa City April
23-24.
