Central hands Simpson 84-61 loss

PELLA, Iowa - Central jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first five minutes and never turned back, handing Simpson an 84-61 loss in the the conference opener for both teams Wednesday night at Kuyper Gymnasium.

Led by 13 first-half points from Miguel Ley, the Dutch (5-1, 1-0 IIAC) took a 42-26 lead into the break after hitting 6-of-12 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. Ley led all scorers with 25.

Andrew Dau tied a season-high with 15 points to lead the Storm (1-6, 0-1 IIAC), which lost its fourth game in a row.

Simpson got solid performances from a pair of freshman, as Anthony Miller came off the bench to score eight points and John Cord had six and three rebounds in only seven minutes of playing time.

Four players reached double-digits for the Dutch. Loren Liming recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, Justin Madsen added 14 points and Mark Holan chipped in with 10.

Simpson returns to action in its final conference game before the holiday break this weekend, as Cornell visits Cowles Fieldhouse for a scheduled 8 p.m. tip as part of a men's and women's doubleheader, The women's game precedes the men at 6 p.m.
