Storm finish 17th in second race of season

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Simpson women's cross country team ran to a 17th-place finish of 27 teams at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational at Saukie Golf Course on Friday.

Hosted by Augustana (Ill.), 323 individuals took part in the competition. Olivet Nazarene won the meet with 51 points, followed by Truman State with 71 and Lewis University with 135. Simpson had 491 points, behind Principia (483) and ahead of Webster (520). Cornell, the only other Iowa Conference representative, finished ninth (223).

"We ran a great team race today," first-year head coach Heath Moenck said. "We showed significant improvement from our first meet and will only get better throughout the season."

For the second time this season, Jade Osborne paced the Storm. The junior finished 55th in the individual race, completing the 6-kilometer course in 23:53.3.

Annie Hills came in 126th with a 25:08.5, Courtney Licht took 151st with a 25:29.9 and Maddy McAreavy finished 162nd after running a 25:39.3.  Lindsey Borgomainerio ran a 25:51.0 for 171st place, Shelby King placed 204th (26:29.7) and Erin Guzman rounded out the top-seven in 209th (26:33.3). Freshman Lauren Doocy came in right behind Guzman, taking 210th (26:34.9).

The Storm are off next week before participating in the Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly, Iowa on Oct. 8.
