Ellingson takes third at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Catie Ellingson (Indianola, Iowa) ran to a third place finish, leading the Simpson women's cross country team 13th of 24 teams at the Brissman/Lundeen Cross Country Invitational on Friday.

Ellingson finished the course in 21:55.9, behind St. Norbert's Jenny Scherer and Division II Truman State's Dani Dell'orco. Scherer won the race in 21:09.6, followed by Dell'orco (21:50.6). In three races this season, Ellingson has finished no lower than third.

Simpson finished with 344 points, ahead of St. Ambrose (362) and Illinois Central (421). Northern Iowa won the invitational with 74 points, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point in second (120) and Olivet Nazarene in third (123).

"We had a great race today," head coach Brad Hofer said. "I'm proud of the way our team is working and pushing through in the second half of the race. We ran very strong as a team today."

Sophomore Jade Osborne (Goodyear, Ariz.) was Simpson's No. 2 finisher, placing 49th (23:52.2). Freshman Annie Hills (Swisher, Iowa) came in 103rd (24:44.5), junior Erin Guzman (Traer, Iowa) took 118th (25:01.7), junior Rachel Smith (Marion, Iowa) took 143rd (25:34.0), freshman Shelby King (Tipton, Iowa) placed 153rd (25:41.9) and sophomore Jayde Boyle (Holstein, Iowa) came in 154th (25:42.0).

The Storm have a week off before traveling to the Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly Oct. 9.
