Women’s soccer welcomes back Alexis Ponce as assistant coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – After helping Simpson women's soccer reach new heights as a student-athlete, Alexis Ponce is returning to the program as the top assistant coach.

A four-year letterwinner from 2020-23, Ponce returns to Indianola after helping Simpson to one of the most successful stretches in program history. During her career, the Storm won 45 matches, finished among the top three in the American Rivers Conference each season, advanced to back-to-back conference tournament championship matches and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1999 in 2023.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Coach Ponce back home to Simpson," said head coach Jeremy Reinert. "Her familiarity with our program, combined with firsthand experience navigating the highs and lows of competing at the college level, will make her an invaluable resource for our student-athletes."

Ponce appeared in 65 career matches, totaling five goals and three assists while logging more than 2000 minutes in the midfield. Two of her five goals proved to be gamewinners during her senior season, coming against Dubuque and Wartburg.

"Returning to Simpson College as the assistant women's soccer coach is an incredible honor and truly a full-circle moment for me," said Ponce. "I want to sincerely thank Coach Reinert and the search committee for believing in me and trusting me with this opportunity. This program played a major role in shaping me into the person I am today, and some of my best memories and biggest moments of growth came during my time here as a student-athlete. I'm excited for the opportunity to help lead, mentor and build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes while continuing the tradition, culture and success that make this program so special."

Originally from Las Vegas, Nev., Ponce graduated from Simpson in 2024 with a degree in sports administration. Following graduation, she spent two years at Loras College as an assistant sports information director, serving as the primary contact for men's and women's soccer, baseball, women's wrestling, and men's and women's cross country and track and field.

"From the moment she took a leap of faith and committed to Simpson from Las Vegas, Lex has embraced everything this program represents," said Reinert. "Her pride in Simpson women's soccer has never wavered - as a player, an alum, and now a coach. I'm excited for our student-athletes to experience the passion, perspective, and pride she'll bring to our staff every day."
