Hamilton scores 19, Simpson handles Luther

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Amy Hamilton (Ames, Iowa/Ames) led three Simpson players in double digits with 19 points and Simpson beat Luther 74-58 Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Storm (18-3, 11-1 IIAC) extended their winning streak to nine games. The win also marks Simpson's 26th consecutive regular season home victory against an Iowa Conference opponent.

Hamilton tied teammate Katie Kitzman (Gillman, Iowa/East Marshall) with a game-high three 3-pointers as the Storm hit nine treys on the evening.

Kitzman scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half and Stacey Schutjer (Titonka, Iowa/Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka) recorded her fourth double-double of the campaign with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Bethany Van Sloten and Camille Stenhaug each scored nine points for the Norse (7-13, 2-9 IIAC).

Holding an eight-point lead at the half, Simpson went on a 15-4 spurt in the first six minutes of the second period to extend its lead to 52-33.

Luther crept within 10 points by the mid-way point in the second half, but the Storm outscored the Norse 19-6 over the next seven minutes. A 3-pointer from Alicia Fischer (Minden, Iowa/Tri-Center) capped off the run to give Simpson a 23-point lead, its largest of the game.

Luther scored the game's first eight points and led 19-18 with 8:28 left in the first half before Simpson scored 11 unanswered points to take a 29-19 at the five-minute mark.

Simpson looks to extend its winning streak to 10 when it hosts Wartburg Saturday, Feb. 6. The only flaw on Simpson's conference record was a 94-74 loss to the Knights in Waverly Jan. 6. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
