Complete game gems leads 12th-ranked Simpson to wins on final day of Florida action

CLERMONT, Fla. - Complete game gems from Emma LaFave and Marina Cronin led 12th-ranked Simpson to wins over Farmingdale State and George Fox to conclude the Spring Games in Florida on Saturday.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Farmingdale State scored the first run of the game, an RBI double in the second inning, proving to be its lone run of the game.
  • Ashlyn Steen, who went 4-for-4, tied up the game in the third with a triple to right center, scoring Caelynn Obleton.
  • A two RBI single from Maddison Pospeshil in the fourth gave Simpson the lead, and the Storm never looked back.
  • After a throwing error in the fifth allowed Steen to score to make it a 4-1 ballgame, Simpson closed out the game with a three-run seventh inning.
  • RBI bunts from Megan Heidelbauer and Mackenize James, followed up by an RBI single up the middle by Katie Shaner lifted Simpson to the 7-1 result.
  • Emma LaFave picked up her sixth win of the season, tossing a complete game with four hits, one run allowed, zero walks and seven punchouts.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson quickly put the pressure on George Fox with two runs in the first. Heidelbauer drove in Steen with a triple in the left center gap and then came home on an RBI groundout from James.
  • Shaner added to the lead in the third inning with a single to center, driving in Steen, and Heidelbauer to put the Storm up 4-0.
  • George Fox's only runs came in the fourth inning as a throwing error allowed two runners to score on the play.
  • Brynn Ortlund added the final insurance run in the bottom half of the frame with a single to right, plating Alexis Voss and giving Simpson the eventual 5-2 win.
  • Marina Cronin pitched another complete game for the Storm, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, and eight strikeouts.
