Storm fall in final home match, seniors recognized
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Storm returned to the Cowles Fieldhouse for one last home game against Ottawa, honoring their seniors following the game. The Storm fell to Ottawa in straight sets, despite putting up a strong fight throughout the match.
Simpson was led tonight by Adriano Roma's eight kills, followed by Ignacio Aguado Herranz's six kills. Max Robinson led the team in assists with 19, while Sebastian Rivera led the team with 12 digs.
After the match, Anthony Potratz, Cody Durbin, and Max Robinson were recognized for their accomplishments while a part of the Simpson men's volleyball team. All three seniors spent their entire career playing for the Storm, and they were applauded for their hard work and dedication to the program.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set one opened with a 4-0 run for the Storm, marked by a kill and an ace from Adriano Roma. Ottawa fought back with a 4-0 run of their own, bringing the score to a tie. The score remained close until a late 3-0 run by Ottawa put the score at 18-14. The Storm continued to fight, but ultimately fell in set one 25-21.
- Anthony Potratz brought in the first point of the second set on a kill. A kill and an ace by Ignacio Aguado Herranz kept the Storm in the match early on, bringing the score to 9-6 in favor of Ottawa. Three mid-set points by the Braves prompted a Storm timeout. After the timeout, Daniel Garcia Contreras brought the Storm a point with a kill. Ottawa rallied off three more points, and the Storm eventually fell 25-17 in set two.
- The first point of the third set went to the Storm on an Ottawa error. After some back and forth early on, the Storm found themselves down at 7-3 before Adriano Roma put down a kill. Ottawa continued to pull away from the Storm, despite the hard-fought efforts from Simpson. The Storm fell in set three 25-15.
