Rounds, Darrington medal at Central Open
PELLA, Iowa - Marty Rounds (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Jefferson) and Jake Darrington (Louisburg, Kan./Louisburg) took first-place honors for Simpson at the Central Open on Friday.
Rounds won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.94, topping his best time of the season despite cool conditions in Pella. He also placed fifth in the 200 (22.52).
Darrington won the javelin throw, easily surpassing his best throw of the season with a winning effort of 183-11. His previous best was 181-4.
Currently boasting the second-best performance in the Iowa Conference, freshman John Cord (Atlantic, Iowa/Atlantic) placed second in the long jump (22-1/4). Ryan Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) placed second in the 5,000 meters (16:10.96).
Jarrod Schott (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas) placed third in the long jump (21-8) and the 4x100 meter relay team of Jacob Christy (Vinton, Iowa/Vinton-Shellsburg), Rounds, Legrand Bien-Aime (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Stranahan) and Cord also took third (43.53).
Nick Wilson (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles (16.38) and Casey Dunning (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) placed seventh in the 3,000 meters (9:37.59).
The next action for Simpson is the Iowa Conference Championships in Storm Lake, May 14-15.
