Simpson women take close match against Northwestern
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Allison Anderson (Eldridge, Iowa/North Scott) and Lynae Gruber (Shenandoah, Iowa/Shenandoah) picked up crucial three-set victories as Simpson recovered from a 2-1 deficit in doubles to take a 5-4 win against Northwestern (Iowa) Friday afternoon at the Dick and Nancy Buxton Tennis Courts.
The win improves Simpson's record to 2-2 during the spring season.
After winning the first set against Northwestern's Kellie Korver at No. 4 singles 6-3, Anderson dropped the second set 6-4 before taking a 12-10 win in the deciding set. At No. 5 singles, Gruber fell behind a set before winning back-to-back sets, 6-3 and 10-7.
With the match tied at four a-piece, Juliana Pearson's (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) win at No. 6 singles proved the difference maker, taking 7-5 and 6-3 decisions from Bobbie Lydick.
Tiffany Bost (Spokane, Wash./Mead) gave Simpson it's fourth singles win, a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 2. The team of Lindsay Nash (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) and Pearson gave the Storm their lone doubles win, 8-2 at No. 2.
Simpson returns to action Monday, April 12 when it travels to Kirksville, Mo. to face Westminster in a 3 p.m. dual.
