Cowles/Carse Rennovation: Project Details
Pool Area
The space currently occupied by the pool will be filled
in and converted into a dual-level fitness facility. The top level
of the facility, measured at 4,500-square feet, will be designated
for aerobic and strength machine equipment open to the Simpson
community. The bottom level will contain a 5,500-square-foot weight
room and an expanded wrestling room, showcasing cutting-edge
equipment, and faculty/coach office suites. The facility will
extend beyond the pillars on the South end of the pool and onto the
patio area, overlooking Buxton Stadium through a glass wall.
Main Level/Hall of Champions
The main entrance into the Cowles Center will be
transformed into an aesthetically pleasing lounge with a view of
the top level of the fitness facility. A 1,500-square-foot
aerobics/cheer/dance studio will be located on the main floor, as
well as academic offices. A renovated Hall of Fame display will
lead into the Hall of Fame Conference Room, which will be a
welcoming gathering area used for recruiting, reunions and
meetings, all while overlooking the fitness facility as well as
Buxton Stadium.
Carse Hall
Carse Hall will become the new home to administrative
offices, head and assistant coaches' offices and classrooms, taking
the place of the current weight room and wrestling room. The
hallway will connect directly to the new Kent Campus Center.
Combined, the two facilities will provide over 170,000-square-feet
of space for student activities, conveniently located at the heart
of campus. The racquetball courts will remain intact at their
current location.
