GRINNELL, Iowa — The Simpson women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Grinnell in the season opener Saturday.
Valencia Alvarez found the back of the net in the 17th minute and Francesca Varias added an insurance tally in the 56th to give the Pioneers (1-0) their fourth win in five tries in the series.
Freshman Madisen Strecker took two shots to lead the Storm (0-1), who took five on the night. The Storm put three shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net against Regan Kasprak.
Riley Adams made six saves for the Storm.
Simpson opens the home schedule Wednesday, Sept. 6 when Grand View comes to town for a non-conference clash. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
