PELLA, Iowa -- Shane Mathias and Colton Kinnison both tallied third-place finishes and Dylan McChesney turned in a fifth-place result to lead Simpson wrestling with 20.5 points at the Central Under Armour Invitational on Saturday.
After securing two-straight byes, Mathias lost his first bout at 184 pounds in the silver bracket. Mathias found himself in the third-place match and pulled off a 9-4 decision over Wisconsin-Platteville's Kyle Wolf.
Kinnison tallied back-to-back pins at 285 pounds in the silver bracket, with his fastest at 0:42. Kinnison lost 6-2 to receive a spot in the third-place final, which he won, 4-1, over Central's Jaise Gulling. Bryan Cordova began his day with a 3:35-minute pin at 285 to also earn a win in the silver division.
In the gold bracket, McChesney went 3-1 at 125 pounds with two decisions and one pin. Jason Peta wrapped up his day in sixth at 133 pounds, highlighted by a 2-0 win over teammate, Jason Padilla. Sam Mathis brought home sixth at 197 after securing two wins, including an 8-0 major decision.
The Storm return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Matman Invitational in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
