Storm grapplers fall to Beavers in Hopper

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson had three wrestlers win on Friday night but it was not enough as Buena Vista claimed a 31-11 victory in Hopper Gymnasium in the American Rivers Conference dual meet.

The Storm moves to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in A-R-C competition and the Beavers are now 5-7 and 2-6 in the conference.

Blake Bauer used all seven minutes to win his 157 pound match by a score of 18-3 for a technical fall victory. The sophomore had a slim 4-1 lead after the first three minutes, but added eight points in the second period to widen the gap. Bauer now has a 10-12 record for the year.

DeVaughn Scott now has 21 wins on the season after a 9-2 decision over Kevin Pape at 197 pounds. Scott went up 6-2 after the first period and kept the pressure on over the next two periods. Sam Mathis followed that up with a 5-1 decision for Simpson at 285 pounds. It was scoreless after the first three minutes, but Mathis was able to take a 2-1 advantage into the final period and added three more points for the victory.
